Most fans remember Cortney’s first major role on the Fox show Melrose Place. She played Alison Parker from 1992-1997. Melrose Place was a spinoff of Beverly Hills 90210. Melrose place plodded along in the ratings until Heather Locklear was recruited. Locklear is generally given credit for saving the series.
On Melrose place Courtney Thorne Smith’s character Alison was romantic with “Billy” played by Andrew Shue. I personally found Billy pretty annoying with her perpetual pouting.
From 1997 to 2000 she played Georgia Thomas on the highly popular Ally McBeal series which starred Calista Flockhart.
In 2001 she moved over to ABC to star as Cheryl on “According to Jim” with Jim Belushi as Jim. According to Jim has developed a strong following despite being slotted in some very competetitive time slots.
