Veins, to the contrary of arteries, run to the heart an have a lack of oxygen. That's why the blood is darker and therefore flashier. By the way: varicose veins are something COMPLETELY different than that! Or maybe you just enjoy nagging upon and/or goggling at women's bodies and forget to take a closer glance at the mirror - I doubt even 10 % of you could even claim to have only the slightest features of sexually attractive looks about yourselves.
